APRIL 2022 GENERAL MEETING

At our April 14, 2022 meeting, guest speaker, Sean Enns presented ‘A Conversation with Charlie’.

Sean took us through the story of Charlie Abbot, Chemainus’ beloved hermit, exploring his origins and how he arrived to become the Hermit of Chemainus.  Charlie Abbott appeared in Chemainus in the late 70s, though few know where he came from or how he got there. Today, his trails through the forests of Chemainus stand as Charlie’s love letter to the land he lived on and cared for over a decade. Charlie passed away in 1989 (on April 14) at the age of 87.

Sean Enns grew up in Chemainus in the 70s and 80s, and met Charlie on a number of occasions. Today, he’s a writer of fiction, non-fiction and theatre, with a particular interest in stories based in myth, legend, and lore.

We acknowledge that we meet on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw people from whom Nanaimo takes its name.
