The History That We Share

At our Thursday, February 8 meeting, Robert Janning, a Saanich based author, discussed his second book "The History That We Share", which relays the history of the Methodist Church of Canada, the Coqualeetza Residential School which it administered, and the Snuneymuxw First Nation, whose children were sent to Coqualeetza starting in 1888. The author gave attendees a copy of his autographed  book.

His book is the product of a five year investigative process into the relationship between the Methodist Church of Canada and the Snuneymuxw First Nation.  His research covers from the time of  first contact to the day when Snuneymuxw children were to a residential school in Sardis, B.C.

We acknowledge that we meet on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw people from whom Nanaimo takes its name.
